Jack Grealish was “ liking ” a tweet about joining Manchester United in the summer transfer window – with Red Devils fans excited.
The Aston Villa captain has been a target for United since last year as he tries to strengthen himself in attack.
Friday saw Grealish re-tweet a clip of Wayne Rooney from Euro 2004 and a fan replied to him: “Please join United”.
Grealish liked the tweet before quickly hating it moments later.
The 25-year-old signed a new deal with his boys’ club last year, but that didn’t stop him from being linked with a transfer from Villa Park.
Fans responded to the tweet and are convinced that a move to Old Trafford is now underway.
One said, “I have always said that Jack could easily leave this window and nobody wants to hear it.”
Another added: “It looks like a very strange tweet that is liked by accident.”
While a third said: “Grealish is actually a high level troll”.
He also won a spot on Gareth Southgate’s England squad for Euro 2020.
This season Dean Smith’s team finished 11th in the Premier League standings and much of that is Grealish.
Despite losing a big chunk of 2021 with a shin injury, Grealish scored six times and produced 10 assists in the league.
Agent Jonathan Barnett confirmed that Grealish is attracting strong interest from clubs across Europe.
He told SNTV in the Birmingham Mail: “The truth is we don’t know (what’s going to happen). There are many (interested) clubs and we will not put Manchester United at the top of that (list).
“But he could wait. He could wait too, so it’s a conversation that the club, Aston Villa, will have with Jack and we ourselves will then see where we’re going.
“He loves Villa but I think we have to wait and see how things are going. He is currently a Villa player and has no thoughts of anything else.
“He could be a big star in the summer, maybe he should have played a little earlier for England.
“It’s a shame he has this injury right now, but he’ll be fine.
“The only hope is that he’ll get a chance and he’ll be great.”
Manchester City have been involved in a move in the past few days and are reportedly ready to pay up to £ 100m, breaking Britain’s transfer record.
Pep Guardiola would make Grealish the number 1 midfielder before the summer, according to the Daily Mail.
Paul Pogba’s £ 89m transfer to United in 2016 remains the UK record, with City breaking the club’s transfer record with the signing of Ruben Dias (£ 64m) last summer.
